The Chemistry Department's goal is to perform cutting-edge, internationally renowned research in chemical sciences while delivering top-tier education to undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers. Our research excellence spans traditional fields like physical, analytical, inorganic, and organic chemistry, while expanding into emerging areas such as environmental chemistry, chemical biology, biophysical chemistry, materials science, and nanotechnology. We take pride in fostering a collaborative, diverse, and supportive scientific community. Our focus on teamwork links us with peers across campus, nationwide, and globally.
Undergraduates can earn either a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry through the College of Letters & Science. The program offers comprehensive chemistry training alongside a broad liberal arts education, while giving students ample opportunities for hands-on scientific exploration in both lab courses and research settings. Students from other university colleges can add chemistry as a secondary major. Those pursuing chemistry must fulfill their college's general education and breadth requirements alongside the chemistry major's specific coursework.
