The Physics and Philosophy program is designed for students passionate about physics who don't require professional laboratory and computational training. This academic path enables students to tackle complex theoretical challenges while exploring fundamental conceptual and philosophical questions. Graduates emerge with a robust grasp of relativity and quantum mechanics - physics areas rich with philosophical implications. The curriculum provides strong preparation for graduate studies, particularly in history and philosophy of science (HPS), as well as careers in science communication or education. Fields like law and medicine value these graduates for their intellectual flexibility and ability to grasp challenging concepts. The program also offers exceptional pre-law preparation, as both physics and philosophy cultivate rigorous analytical skills applicable to real-world problems while offering complementary (and occasionally contrasting) perspectives.
Students should complete secondary school. Brown first-year students will have completed 12 to 13 years of primary and secondary schooling.
A TOEFL score of 100 or above on the internet-based exam, or 600 or above on the paper-based exam, or a score of 8.0 or above on the IELTS, is expected in most cases.
