The philosophy undergraduate program provides classes across all major fields of study, ranging from epistemology and metaphysics to religious philosophy, literary philosophy, and feminist perspectives. Students will explore philosophical thought throughout different historical eras. Those who choose this major will deepen their understanding of classical philosophy, Enlightenment-era thought, logical reasoning, theory of knowledge, metaphysical concepts, and value systems. Although the curriculum delivers comprehensive philosophical training, students must select a specific focus area within the discipline.
Students should complete secondary school. Brown first-year students will have completed 12 to 13 years of primary and secondary schooling.
A TOEFL score of 100 or above on the internet-based exam, or 600 or above on the paper-based exam, or a score of 8.0 or above on the IELTS, is expected in most cases.
