The International Relations (IR) specialization is an undergraduate interdisciplinary program that incorporates courses from multiple departments to provide a comprehensive global and comparative view of modern international systems. Its goal is to encourage innovative approaches to worldwide challenges while giving students analytical skills, language proficiency, and cultural awareness to navigate these issues. The program leverages courses from more than 25 departments and disciplines such as political science, history, economics, anthropology, sociology, psychology, religious studies, environmental studies, and regional studies. The IR program focuses on developing strong analytical foundations from social sciences and humanities to critically examine global issues. It promotes investigation into both practical and theoretical aspects of the field and mandates advanced proficiency in at least one foreign language.
Students should complete secondary school. Brown first-year students will have completed 12 to 13 years of primary and secondary schooling.
A TOEFL score of 100 or above on the internet-based exam, or 600 or above on the paper-based exam, or a score of 8.0 or above on the IELTS, is expected in most cases.
