Health and Human Biology is a multidisciplinary program offering a solid grounding in biological sciences combined with significant studies in humanities and social sciences related to Human Health and Disease. Addressing health and wellness in modern times demands both specialized knowledge in life sciences and broad understanding across social sciences and humanities. Brown University's Health & Human Biology (HHB) concentration enables students to explore health topics through diverse academic lenses. The program establishes core competencies in biology, chemistry, quantitative methods, genetics, anatomy & physiology, and organismal biology. Students further specialize through upper-level biology electives while expanding their perspective with theme-based courses from non-biological disciplines. Concentration courses must be taken for letter grades unless special circumstances require discussion with an advisor about the S/NC option. Prior advisor approval is mandatory for any S/NC registration in concentration courses (with exceptions for mandatory S/NC offerings).
Students should complete secondary school. Brown first-year students will have completed 12 to 13 years of primary and secondary schooling.
A TOEFL score of 100 or above on the internet-based exam, or 600 or above on the paper-based exam, or a score of 8.0 or above on the IELTS, is expected in most cases.
