The 21st century presents urgent environmental challenges that demand our attention. We need innovative solutions to nourish an expanding global population while preserving Earth's vital ecosystems, create more sustainable urban spaces as cities rapidly expand, and address threats from climate change and sea level rise. These interconnected issues require multidisciplinary approaches for effective resolution. To equip future leaders with these skills, the Institute at Brown for Environment and Society (IBES) provides two undergraduate programs: an A.B. in Environmental Studies and a Sc.B. in Environmental Science. While both degrees combine natural sciences, social sciences, and policy studies, the Sc.B. offers more intensive specialization. Students in either program gain focused expertise by choosing among four specialized tracks. With comprehensive core curriculum, track-specific coursework, and culminating capstone projects, graduates emerge prepared to drive impactful environmental initiatives across local, national, and international contexts.
