Brown University offers undergraduate students diverse course options spanning introductory language studies, history, and archaeology, along with specialized topics like Egyptian and Mesopotamian religion, literature, and science. Most courses welcome all Brown students without prerequisites. Department concentrators can choose between Egyptology or Assyriology tracks, both providing comprehensive foundations through archaeological studies, epigraphy, and historical analysis. These programs employ interdisciplinary methods to examine ancient languages, literature, governance structures, artistic expressions, belief systems, and early scientific knowledge from these civilizations.
Students should complete secondary school. Brown first-year students will have completed 12 to 13 years of primary and secondary schooling.
A TOEFL score of 100 or above on the internet-based exam, or 600 or above on the paper-based exam, or a score of 8.0 or above on the IELTS, is expected in most cases.
