The Archaeology and the Ancient World undergraduate program offers students a chance to delve into the diverse field of archaeology while promoting cross-disciplinary exploration of antiquity. While centered on the archaeology and art of the Mediterranean, Egypt, and Near East, Brown University's program motivates students to expand beyond these regions, connecting with the institution's strengths in history, epigraphy, art, ethics, engineering, religious studies, and sciences. Featuring three interconnected yet distinct pathways, the concentration provides adaptable options for students to chart their academic journey. All tracks share a common starting point before encouraging learners to develop specialized knowledge in areas like cultural preservation, archaeological methodologies, material studies, or specific historical eras and locations. The curriculum is structured to facilitate progressive learning, guiding students from foundational courses to advanced seminars.
Students should complete secondary school. Brown first-year students will have completed 12 to 13 years of primary and secondary schooling.
A TOEFL score of 100 or above on the internet-based exam, or 600 or above on the paper-based exam, or a score of 8.0 or above on the IELTS, is expected in most cases.
