The Department of Spanish and Portuguese provides two degree options: an MA in Portuguese and an MA in Spanish. Typically, graduates pursue careers in secondary education or advance to PhD programs, while others secure roles in government or business fields. Approximately fifteen candidates join the program annually. This intensive course is structured for completion within two years.

Bachelor's degree in Spanish or other subject. If in another subject, you must have Spanish courses equal to our Spanish minor.
Strong academic writing skills and a capacity to conduct independent research.
Strong language skills in Spanish.
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3
Minimum GPA of 3.5 in Spanish/Portuguese courses
IELTS - Overall minimum band score of 7.0 (consisting of minimum band scores of 6.0 in each module)
TOEFL (paper based test) - 580
TOEFL iBT (internet based test) - Minimum subscores of 22 (Speaking) and 21 (Listening, Reading, & Writing respectively) comprising an overall score at least 85.
Graduate Record Exam (GRE)
Minimum score of 3.5 on Analytical Writing section
