The Education Specialist (EdS) degree in school psychology equips students to obtain certification as school psychologists for K-12 environments, with accreditation from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) valid until December 2019. The curriculum covers essential skills such as individual and group counseling, responsive support services, collaboration with parents, educators, administrators, and specialists, addressing emotional and social development in youth, learning principles, fostering healthy development, early intervention strategies, comprehensive assessment for educational, social, career, and mental health interventions, multicultural approaches, historical and educational foundations, professional ethics and responsibilities, family and institutional dynamics, and research methodologies. This thesis-based program mandates full-time daytime participation, with practicum placements occurring early in the coursework. The required 1200-hour internship takes place at approved sites offering psychological and educational services, supervised by a qualified school psychologist and university faculty member.
