The psychology PhD program delivers an intensive academic journey culminating in a doctoral degree. The initial four semesters establish a comprehensive foundation across psychological disciplines, develop research competencies, and introduce specialized focus areas. Students dedicate their final two years to concentrated coursework within one of three primary concentrations: (1) Applied Social Psychology, (2) Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience, or (3) Developmental Psychology, with an optional Health Psychology subspecialty available across all tracks.
Prospective students must identify potential faculty advisors in their application materials. Within the first term, each candidate must form a dissertation committee comprising a chair and two additional graduate faculty members, formalized through a Program of Study submission. Emphasis-specific coursework and research should commence under the guidance of the committee chair.
This curriculum prepares scholars for research-oriented and instructional roles while emphasizing practical implementations of social psychology. Graduates will be equipped for diverse professional paths involving research, education, or applied work—including program assessment, statistical consultation, legal or organizational advising, and health psychology applications.
