History serves as a cornerstone of liberal arts, connecting the humanities and social sciences. Grasping historical concepts is fundamental to becoming a well-rounded individual. This makes history an excellent choice for students seeking a comprehensive foundation for careers in law, government, or business, or those pursuing a broad liberal arts education. It also provides valuable preparation for future educators. In recent years, the growing field of public history has highlighted the diverse applications of historical training. Many professionals in banking, law, corporate leadership, and public service now identify as public historians—individuals who leverage their historical analytical skills in non-academic settings while still valuing their historical education. Numerous job postings through BYU's Employment Office don't specify a major, creating opportunities for public historians to apply their specialized training in various professional environments.
