Food Science is an interdisciplinary field exploring all aspects of food. It's the SCIENCE OF FLAVOR, and at BYU, our Food Science experts are shaping tomorrow's food landscape worldwide. These professionals craft innovative products that sustain life, drive progress, and power your favorite brands. We proudly call ourselves BYU's passionate food enthusiasts and experts.

As fewer agricultural workers must feed a growing global population, proper food preservation and packaging become crucial for delayed consumption and long-distance distribution. Food scientists play vital roles throughout this entire journey - from farm production to the ultimate eating experience. Their knowledge helps create the safe, nourishing, cost-effective, varied, and eco-friendly food products along with groundbreaking packaging solutions you see in stores today.

The Department of Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Science provides two specialized pathways: the Food Science Technical Track and the Food Industry Management Track.
