The Brigham Young University Didactic Program in Dietetics aims to cultivate knowledgeable and engaged individuals who excel in family life, faith, community involvement, and national service, while equipping them for success in supervised practice and significant professional impact in dietetics.
The Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) starts with roughly four semesters of preparatory studies, covering both university-wide general education and program-specific prerequisites. Eligible students can then seek admission into the professional sequence, comprising the last two years of the curriculum. This advanced coursework encompasses clinical and community nutrition, foodservice administration, along with instructional techniques and research methodologies in dietetics.
In their concluding semester, students apply for a Dietetic Internship (usually lasting 9-12 months at various U.S. locations), which must be completed to become eligible for the national registration examination for dietitians.
