The dietetics program holds accreditation from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics, meeting all Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) standards. To qualify for the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) examination, students need to finish the DPD coursework, obtain a master's degree, and complete a supervised practice experience, known as a Dietetic Internship (DI). Graduates of UMass Amherst's Nutrition undergraduate DPD program have multiple pathways to fulfill RDN qualifications. Often called the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), this track provides the necessary education for aspiring Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs). It stands among just four Massachusetts-based DPD programs accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Registered Dietitian Nutritionists frequently serve as crucial healthcare team members in clinical environments. Their skills are also utilized in public health initiatives, community programs, food service operations, athletic settings, and corporate wellness initiatives.
