Chemistry and biochemistry represent dynamic scientific fields essential to human life. Given their comprehensive scope covering all material phenomena, they're divided into five specialized domains. These include protein synthesis regulation, molecular cellular signaling, and proteomics (biochemistry); medicinal compound creation (organic chemistry); novel molecular and material development (inorganic chemistry); energy transfer and molecular structure analysis through spectroscopy (physical chemistry); and examination of pharmaceuticals, biological samples, and environmental pollutants (analytical chemistry).
These sciences extend well beyond basic laboratory equipment. They incorporate advanced techniques like genetic engineering and utilize instruments such as mass spectrometers, chromatographs, electron microscopes, and NMR spectrometers - all available to BYU undergraduates.
