As one of the premier institutions for classical music education in the western United States, Brigham Young University has cultivated orchestral musicians for more than 100 years. The string department, with around ninety students, represents a substantial segment of the School of Music's student body.
BYU's string program provides access to globally celebrated instructors and performance opportunities with top-tier ensembles. Students collaborate through chamber groups, performance ensembles, and specialized classes, united in their dedication to musical mastery. Chamber music plays a vital role in the string curriculum, with intensive coaching helping majors perfect their craft.
Undergraduate string majors must complete two recitals (junior and senior) for graduation, while graduate students present one. Frequent performance opportunities allow students to refine their skills, support peers, and engage with the community.
