The Animation program boasts national recognition, with graduates securing excellent employment in their fields. Students have earned numerous prestigious honors, including Student Academic Awards and Emmys. Internships, Study Abroad opportunities, and field trips serve as pathways to professional experience, enabling students to visit artists' studios, film sets, and gaming companies. At BYU, Animation students collaborate across disciplines, using specialized software, studio spaces, and other resources to finish their projects. They build professional portfolios through individual assignments, team projects, and feature film work—all essential preparation for thriving careers in Animation. The curriculum covers figure drawing, traditional and digital animation techniques, illustration, art history, and related subjects.

Admission to the Animation BFA program is competitive, requiring departmental approval. Prospective students must declare pre-major status and complete DESAN 101. Performance in this course determines advancement to pre-BFA Animation standing. Qualified candidates then finish foundational coursework before submitting a portfolio for June review to gain entry into the BFA program.
Only those with pre-BFA status may take foundational courses and later apply for the professional program via the June portfolio evaluation.
