The Brandeis PhD program in political science is designed to cultivate top-tier scholars, educators, and policy experts. The curriculum provides comprehensive training in various research methodologies, with special emphasis on qualitative approaches, political philosophy, and comparative case studies.
With its intimate scale, the program ensures personalized guidance. Students benefit from small seminar discussions and one-on-one tutorials that facilitate frequent interaction with faculty advisors. Teaching opportunities, including serving as teaching assistants for introductory courses and occasionally leading independent classes, enable doctoral candidates to refine their teaching abilities.
The program requires at least three years of on-campus study and completion of twelve term courses (including five foundational graduate seminars and seven electives). All students must participate in the year-long Departmental Proseminar, creating a collaborative space for discussing research projects, political science methodologies, and career preparation.
All newly admitted PhD candidates receive full tuition coverage, a living stipend, and health benefits, irrespective of their financial circumstances or country of origin.
