The mechanical engineering program equips you to become an innovator across diverse technical and professional sectors.
Through mechanical engineering courses, you'll bring textbook concepts to life with hands-on learning. You'll delve into the math, science, and physics principles that form the foundation of mechanical engineering. This ME degree readies you for careers in aerospace, automotive, robotics, biomedical, energy, agriculture, and many other fields. Starting in your first year, you'll gain experience in labs and the machine shop, with opportunities to advance into research and design projects. The program culminates in a yearlong senior team project, where you create a product or solution for a local or regional business. For this project, you could also contribute to one of the department's four vehicle teams: Formula, Solar, Baja, or Shell Eco-Marathon. With the expertise and training acquired, you'll be prepared as a problem-solver capable of designing and analyzing machines, systems, or processes. To tailor your career trajectory, you can pursue a concentration in biomedical engineering or energy. You may also select technical electives in specialized ME fields and complement your studies with a minor of your choice.
Admission is based on a review of each student’s total academic and extracurricular record; the high school record of scholastic achievement and extracurricular and community activity; Results from the SAT or ACT; English language proficiency; Judgments made as a result of personal interviews and campus visits.
