BGSU's Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Arts programs in Studio Art equip students with comprehensive skills across all artistic media.
As contemporary art continues to dissolve conventional medium distinctions, the Studio Art Division builds a strong base in both 2D and 3D coursework, empowering students to develop their unique artistic perspectives. These degree programs provide thorough training in all artistic mediums.
Students gain expertise through specialized studio practice in various disciplines including ceramics, drawing & painting, glasswork, jewelry & metalsmithing, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.
Building on this flexible foundation, the studio art program promotes exploration and bold artistic choices. Learners can tailor their education by choosing intermediate and advanced courses that align with their creative goals.
BGSU's Glass program offers a dynamic space for students who are self-motivated creators and analytical thinkers. This specialized area emphasizes artistic production, continuous experimentation, scholarly inquiry, and critical analysis. Participants develop inventive approaches and creative solutions when working with glass as an artistic medium. Cross-disciplinary projects incorporating glass are actively promoted.
The Glass program features cutting-edge facilities supporting hot, warm, and cold glass techniques. A robust visiting artist initiative provides students with direct engagement with prominent figures in modern glass art. The Bowling Green region holds historical importance as a birthplace of the Studio Glass Movement. Nearby, the Toledo Museum of Art's Glass Pavilion houses an exceptional collection of historical and contemporary glass art, complemented by numerous local glass studios in the vicinity.
