The theater program immerses students in all facets of theatrical arts, including literature, history, theory, performance, direction, design, and technical production. Admission to the Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a musical theater concentration requires passing a demanding audition, conducted in early December, late January, and mid-April. Those specializing in musical theater undergo seven semesters of vocal training. The curriculum mandates acting and dance instruction alongside core theater studies. Beyond general education requirements, students complete three professional development seminars, building toward a final portfolio review and audition. This musical theater liberal arts education fosters essential 21st-century competencies like creative problem-solving, effective communication, and teamwork.

Qualification Requirements
For admission to Bowling Green State University, a freshman applicant must:
Be a graduate of a senior high school approved or accredited by the department of education of the state in which it is located, OR
Have earned high school equivalency through the General Educational Development (GED) testing program (issued by the state department of education), OR
Present GED test results and ACT or SAT test results, if the student completed secondary education through an alternative program such as home schooling, OR
Present an international baccalaureate diploma or certificate.
Admission is selective. In general, we require a high school record that includes four units each of English and mathematics, three units each of science and social studies, two units of a foreign language, and one unit of visual or performing arts.
An applicant is considered for admission on the basis of four criteria:

Class rank
