Our most rigorous program, the Bachelor of Music serves as the standard pathway for students aiming to advance their musical education at graduate and professional levels. Offering specializations in diverse fields like composition, music history, instrumental performance, and jazz studies, among others, this degree provides an excellent groundwork for continued musical development.
The Vocal Department at UNC maintains a distinguished legacy of artistic achievement and energy. All vocal instruction takes place within the Kenan Music Building. With approximately 80-90 vocal majors and two class voice sections, the program continues to flourish. Recent guest artists have featured renowned Metropolitan Opera performers such as Alexandra LoBianco, Isabelle Leonard, Lucas Meachem, Christine Goerke, Anthony Dean Griffey, Nathan Gunn, Dawn Upshaw, David Daniels, Frederica von Stade, and Angela Brown. Additional visiting artists have included Kristin Chavez, Isai Jess Muoz, Victoria Clark, Gabriel Kahane, Elizabeth Bishop, Patricia Miller, Donna Roll, Eric Mitchko, John Patrick, Michael Maniaci, along with virtual masterclasses by Karen Hall and George Shirley.
