The respiratory care specialization equips associate degree graduates with skills for advanced respiratory practice. Respiratory therapists operate across diverse clinical environments, assessing, treating, and caring for patients of all ages with lung conditions and cardiopulmonary issues. These professionals conduct diagnostic tests to evaluate respiratory function, administer therapies for airway and pulmonary diseases, monitor treatment efficacy, and educate patients. The program establishes a base for graduates to pursue further education, professional certifications, and specialized training in areas like asthma education, neonatal/pediatric care, healthcare management, allied health instruction, and research.

Qualification Requirements
For admission to Bowling Green State University, a freshman applicant must:
Be a graduate of a senior high school approved or accredited by the department of education of the state in which it is located, OR
Have earned high school equivalency through the General Educational Development (GED) testing program (issued by the state department of education), OR
Present GED test results and ACT or SAT test results, if the student completed secondary education through an alternative program such as home schooling, OR
Present an international baccalaureate diploma or certificate.
Admission is selective. In general, we require a high school record that includes four units each of English and mathematics, three units each of science and social studies, two units of a foreign language, and one unit of visual or performing arts.
An applicant is considered for admission on the basis of four criteria:

Cumulative grade point average
Official ACT or SAT results
Class rank
You've never attended college or all your college credits were earned prior to high school graduation (College Credit Plus or dual-enrollment)
