The MSD program spans at least 12 months and includes a mandatory master's thesis. This curriculum equips students with comprehensive expertise and hands-on training in epidemiology, biostatistics, healthcare systems, sociocultural influences on health behaviors, preventive dentistry, and health promotion. Coursework occurs at both Boston University's Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine and the BU School of Public Health. Participants engage in research projects and are supported in publishing their findings in academic journals. The department strongly recommends simultaneous enrollment in the 12-month CAGS in Dental Public Health to fulfill American Board of Dental Public Health certification prerequisites. The dual MSD/CAGS track, lasting 24 months, is designed for dentists without a CEPH-accredited MPH degree who aspire to specialize in dental public health. The program welcomes applications from internationally trained dentists.
