Equipping students with strong reading and writing abilities requires commitment, expertise, and compassion – BU Wheelock's Master of Education (EdM) in Reading Education empowers you to develop these qualities to nurture future generations of readers. Designed for certified teachers looking to enhance their skills in literacy instruction, our program provides both theoretical foundations and practical strategies to help your students thrive academically.
During the EdM in Reading Education program, you'll examine key areas including foundational literacy skills, teen literacy development, subject-specific reading strategies, specialized literacy support, and literature for youth. Beyond these focus areas, you'll develop comprehensive knowledge of reading/writing research and theory, along with practical skills for evaluating literacy progress, teaching effectively, and leading literacy initiatives. The full-time program spans just nine months (fall through spring), with flexible part-time enrollment options.
