The Elementary Education Program prepares individuals holding a liberal arts or professional bachelor's degree for certification as elementary school teachers. Graduate students engage in an intensive curriculum complemented by supervised practical training, with both full-time and part-time enrollment options available.
Our teaching methodology courses and hands-on classroom training introduce future educators to contemporary research and proven instructional techniques across all elementary subject areas.
Before beginning their practicum, participants accumulate at least 120 hours of field experience, developing and delivering lessons across various subjects while completing additional fieldwork requirements. During the spring semester, teacher candidates undertake full-time student teaching, taking primary responsibility for creating lesson plans, delivering effective instruction, and evaluating student progress.
Program Objectives
Instructional Design and Evaluation: Enhances student development through comprehensive, well-organized teaching; creates meaningful assessments; analyzes academic performance metrics; utilizes data to refine teaching methods; provides continuous constructive feedback; and continually improves educational goals (Effective Lesson Planning, Teaching Adaptations, Continuous Improvement).
