The Master of Education (EdM) program equips graduates for careers as mental health counselors, school counselors, or mental performance consultants. This program welcomes applicants holding bachelor's degrees from accredited institutions globally. Although a demonstrated commitment to human services is required, previous study in social or behavioral sciences isn't mandatory.
The Counseling EdM specifically addresses developmental stages from childhood through early adulthood, offering three specialization tracks: Child & Adolescent Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, and Sport/Performance Psychology. While concentration-specific coursework varies, all students complete a 60-credit core curriculum plus at least 700 clinical training hours. Sport/Performance Psychology students can pursue up to 400 hours of sport psychology internships across four terms. The program's foundational training covers:
Typical development from infancy to young adulthood.
Environmental influences encompassing personal, contextual, and cultural aspects.
Strength-based approaches highlighting personal assets and adaptive strategies.
With its strong mental health orientation, graduates from all concentrations gain expertise in addressing diverse psychological concerns.
This rigorous two-year program includes a summer session between academic years, with most students enrolling full-time starting in September. Part-time options are available, though employed students must coordinate with their workplaces to accommodate coursework and clinical requirements. Note that part-time enrollment extends the program duration beyond two years.
