The practice of conserving historical sites has evolved into both a widespread cultural movement and a professional discipline. While it originally stemmed from personal choices made by property owners, today's preservation efforts engage diverse stakeholders including individuals, private organizations, and government entities in multifaceted challenges involving urban planning, funding, and zoning regulations. Boston University leads in professional training through its pioneering academic initiative. This unique interdisciplinary collaboration between the School of Law and the American & New England Studies Program at the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences enables students to earn dual degrees in seven semesters - two fewer than required for separate degree completion.
