The Philosophy PhD program equips students for careers in academic research and philosophy instruction. Applicants must possess the equivalent of an undergraduate philosophy major with excellent academic performance. Those with philosophy minors are also welcome to apply. We strongly advise against part-time PhD applications.
Program Objectives
Graduates of our doctoral program will:
Develop the analytical thinking, oral communication, and writing proficiency required for rigorous exploration of truth, morality, and aesthetics.
Master foundational texts from Classical and Modern eras, along with key contemporary philosophical debates and literature.
Cultivate the ability to construct compelling arguments suitable for academic discourse.
Produce original scholarly work that advances philosophical knowledge.
Maintain their philosophical passion while navigating professional challenges throughout their careers.
Demonstrate intellectual curiosity and active engagement with contemporary issues.
