The department's doctoral program equips students to develop and defend original scholarly contributions while preparing them to teach art and architectural history at all academic levels. Applicants should possess coursework equivalent to BU's undergraduate minor in art and architectural history, including a two-semester survey plus three specialized courses. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language through two years of college study or equivalent.
