The Human Physiology program offers a thorough grounding in scientific and health studies. During the initial two years, students complete fundamental science courses and BU Hub requirements. This foundational stage guarantees that graduates qualify for admission to diverse graduate programs in medicine, dentistry, and allied health fields, as well as careers in basic science research.
In the program's third and fourth years, the curriculum adopts a distinctive structure mirroring—yet simplifying—the first-year coursework of medical school or other health profession programs. Majors explore advanced topics like human gross anatomy and exercise physiology, with optional health-related electives such as Pulmonary Pathophysiology or Pathophysiology in Underserved Communities.
During their final year, students complete an internship at a Boston-area healthcare facility. This hands-on experience integrates with their academic training, providing a well-rounded perspective on human physiology in both research and clinical environments.
Learning Outcomes
Exhibit a strong grasp of human anatomy and physiology.
Students will showcase comprehensive knowledge of human anatomy and physiology by:
Identifying anatomical structures
Distinguishing between normal and abnormal system functions
Understanding systemic interdependencies
Utilizing this understanding in practical situations
