The Russian Language & Literature program aims for students to achieve advanced competency (ACTFL intermediate-high level) in Russian across speaking, reading, writing, and listening. It prepares them to handle original Russian materials and complex real-world scenarios while offering comprehensive studies in Russian literature, culture, history, and politics. The major allows students to tailor their studies based on personal interests—whether focusing on Russia's rich literary heritage, its contemporary geopolitical landscape, or achieving superior language skills. Faculty members guide students in customizing their academic journey.

This program pairs effectively with other disciplines like international relations, history, English, comparative literature, European studies, and political science. Graduates pursue diverse careers in global business, academia, law, media, government, and the arts. With over 250 million Russian speakers worldwide (including 3 million in the U.S.), Russian serves as the common language across former Soviet territories. The major provides cultural access to these regions and addresses the growing demand for Russian specialists in today's geopolitical climate.
