The combined Bachelor's/Master's program in physics, provided through a collaboration between Boston University's College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences (GRS), equips students with fundamental knowledge and analytical skills applicable to diverse career paths. The Physics Department takes pride in delivering excellent instruction while sustaining an active research environment. With a varied faculty, majors benefit from personalized guidance and mentorship opportunities. Undergraduates are actively encouraged to join research initiatives, with many beginning as early as their second year.
This accelerated five-year track serves both students pursuing advanced physics education and those seeking deeper undergraduate-level physics expertise before professional employment. Enrollment must occur by the conclusion of the sophomore year at the latest, with no admissions permitted after junior year completion.
Program Objectives
Exhibit comprehension and proficiency in solving electro- and magnetostatic problems.
Display comprehensive, advanced knowledge of physics fundamentals—including mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, statistical physics, and quantum mechanics—along with the mathematical frameworks required for qualitative and quantitative evaluation in these disciplines.
Demonstrate capability in gathering, processing, and interpreting quantitative data across core physics domains.
