The Philosophy & Political Science major challenges students to critically examine their thought processes and behaviors. Program Objectives
Graduates of this program will demonstrate:
Foundational knowledge in both fields, encompassing the historical development of philosophy and political science as they relate to political thought.
Proficiency in core principles of ethical and political philosophy, covering concepts like justice, authoritarianism, democratic governance, sovereignty, civic participation, social agreements, power structures, fairness, and systemic inequality.
Comprehension of political theory's evolution from classical thinkers to modern political philosophers.
Familiarity with contemporary political science methodologies across specialties including U.S. government, policy analysis, cross-national studies, global affairs, or theoretical frameworks.
Advanced capabilities in logical reasoning, problem-solving, and effective communication through both writing and speech, meeting the standards expected in these complementary disciplines.
