The combined Bachelor of Arts and Master of Public Health program, a collaboration between the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) and the School of Public Health (SPH), merges undergraduate education with graduate-level professional training to expand career prospects in public health. Participants fulfill all BA (128-credit) and MPH (48-credit) degree requirements, with up to 16 credits of SPH graduate courses taken during their final undergraduate years counting toward both degrees. With strategic scheduling and continuous full-time study, students can earn both degrees in five years instead of the typical five-and-a-half. Part-time MPH completion is also an option. The BA is conferred upon finishing undergraduate requirements, while the MPH is awarded after completing all graduate program components.
Public health encompasses multiple disciplines, incorporating knowledge from mathematics, sciences, law, ethics, psychology, sociology, political science, and communications. BA/MPH applicants should show dedication to public health through prior academic work, their SOPHAS personal statement, and relevant experiences. All CAS undergraduate majors may apply, except those in other dual-degree programs. Public Health minors must discontinue their minor if accepted into the BA/MPH program. Applications are due by April 1 of sophomore year (fall entry) or October 15 of junior year (spring entry), with no prior SPH coursework required. A minimum 3.20 GPA is mandatory, though most successful candidates maintain above 3.50.
