The Department of Classical Studies provides a combined BA/MA program that awards both Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees. This program mandates advanced coursework in either or both classical languages.
This accelerated pathway enables undergraduate students specializing in Ancient Greek, Latin, or both to develop superior language proficiency and analytical skills by completing all MA in Classical Studies requirements alongside their undergraduate coursework. Graduates emerge prepared to teach Latin or Ancient Greek at secondary schools, pursue doctoral studies in classics (with both languages), or undertake advanced work in related humanities disciplines.
For the MA component, students will achieve these competencies:
Acquire proficiency in interpreting nuanced meanings and idiomatic expressions in standard Ancient Greek and Latin texts.
Develop comprehensive knowledge of significant classical texts and contemporary scholarly approaches to them.
Execute academic work with professional rigor and ethical standards.
Demonstrate effective teaching skills for classical subjects at the undergraduate level.
