The M.S. program combines academic coursework with a thesis project grounded in research. The study plan is adaptable, allowing students to collaborate with their faculty advisory committee to design a curriculum aligned with their educational background, career aspirations, and research interests. Similar to the Ph.D. track, the M.S. program requires fundamental undergraduate knowledge in geosciences. Applicants without this foundation may need to complete undergraduate-level prerequisites either before or during their graduate studies. Prospective master's students in geology or geophysics should have completed two semesters (or equivalent) of university-level physics or chemistry prior to enrollment, and must fulfill at least two semesters of college calculus before graduation. The program encourages interdisciplinary learning, recommending coursework across geology, geophysics, environmental geosciences, and related scientific and mathematical disciplines. This comprehensive approach proves especially valuable for students pursuing careers in industrial sectors.
