Quantum information science explores how to harness quantum mechanics for advancing computing, communication, and measurement technologies. Unique quantum effects like superposition and entanglement emerge in carefully controlled atomic-scale systems ("qubits"), offering possibilities to surpass traditional technological boundaries. Specifically, by adjusting qubit interactions, these quantum systems can reveal new understandings of quantum materials and serve as building blocks for future quantum computers. Current research focuses in our department encompass quantum sensing, information flow dynamics, teleportation protocols, error mitigation strategies, and topological approaches to quantum computation.

Qualification Requirements

University/college transcripts are required from all post-secondary education institutions attended. Unofficial transcripts submitted through the online application form are acceptable for review purposes during the application process, however, official copies of all transcripts reviewed for admission must be submitted upon acceptance/matriculation, no later than July 15. Transcripts are only considered official when submitted to the MCGS Admissions Office and received directly from official academic sources (i.e. school registrars) in signed/sealed envelopes from each institution; Documents uploaded, attached or otherwise opened by students are always considered unofficial. Students who speak a native language other than English must provide evidence of English proficiency. A score of 100 or higher on the TOEFL iBT test, 7.0 or higher on the IELTS A completed application. Transcripts of all previous work. Three letters of Recommendation. The GRE General Test and Physics Subject Test are recommended but not required. Applicants whose first language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam. This requirement is waived for those whose highest degree is from an English speaking country.
