Each year, the Physics Department at Boston College admits around ten new graduate students into its program. These students work toward Ph.D. and Master's degrees across diverse research areas such as Quantum Materials, Quantum Information Science, Photonics and Nanotechnology, Energy Materials, and Biological Physics. Alumni from BC have achieved success in various professional paths, holding positions as faculty at top research universities, lead scientists in corporate and government laboratories, and entrepreneurs launching tech ventures. Below is a selection of our recent graduates. The BC Physics department fosters a uniquely cooperative atmosphere where students play an essential role in the academic community. During their studies, students collaborate with faculty using cutting-edge facilities both on campus and at global partner institutions. Additionally, they frequently participate in interdisciplinary research teams alongside professors from Chemistry, Biology, Neuroscience, and nearby universities.
Students must have a bachelor's degree and undergraduate course work in calculus, physics, biochemistry, biology and chemistry, including organic chemistry. Applicants whose native language is not English must achieve a TOEFL score of 600 or better (paper-based test), or 250 or better in (computer-based test).
