Biochemistry is an interdisciplinary program jointly managed by the Biology and Chemistry departments. This major offers students comprehensive training in biochemistry along with related courses in biology and chemistry. The Bioinformatics Concentration is available for students pursuing degrees in Biology, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
To earn a Bioinformatics Concentration, students must complete specific core and elective courses. Requirements for a student's primary major may also count toward the bioinformatics core or elective courses. For instance, the foundational biology major requirements automatically satisfy the elective course prerequisite at the BIOL 2000 level or higher, while BIOL 4200, BIOL 5240, or BIOL 6160 can serve dual purposes for biology electives. Computer science majors will inherently meet the three-course CS requirement through their standard curriculum. Those pursuing the B.S. track in computer science will additionally fulfill the Probability requirement via CSCI 2244 (Randomness and Computation).
