Bentley University provides tailored doctoral education through two PhD programs, blending interdisciplinary studies in business, technology, and society with customized research aligned with your goals.
PhD in Accounting candidates explore diverse areas such as auditing standards, corporate controls, financial markets, investment behavior, accounting IT systems, cybersecurity oversight, taxation, and governance structures.
The initial two years feature methodological training in both quantitative and qualitative approaches, alongside core seminars covering Financial Reporting, Audit Practices, Management Control Systems, and Behavioral Decision Theory. Participants also engage in an Accounting Research Colloquium examining emerging topics and complete a faculty-mentored Independent Study. After finishing coursework and passing comprehensive exams, students progress to dissertation research, enrolling in a 9-credit Dissertation Course each term until completion. The Accounting PhD typically takes 4-5 years to finish.
Applicants must have completed a Master Degree.
Required for international applicants. The language requirement is waived for applicants who have earned either a 4 year bachelor's degree or 2 year master's degree from an accredited institution located in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Uganda, or the United States.
