Cornell's PhD in Management program equips you for a distinguished career in academia at leading institutions. Starting from day one, you'll collaborate with faculty mentors throughout Cornell SC Johnson College of Business and the wider university to explore pressing business challenges. Our doctoral candidates demonstrate the innovative spirit and perseverance to tackle complex managerial and policy issues. During initial program years, you'll complete core coursework in management and related disciplines—with many classes emphasizing research methodologies to prepare for dissertation work. You'll analyze existing literature and theories alongside peers, frequently conducting original research for course assignments. As you advance, you can select specialized courses aligned with your research focus, with faculty committees providing guidance. Research collaborations with professors can begin as early as your first year.

The finance concentration examines corporate financial architectures, security valuation mechanisms, and financial market operations. As a finance researcher, you might investigate corporate policy impacts from conflicts of interest, NASDAQ market competitiveness, price bubble identification, or psychological influences on asset pricing. Our finance faculty provides robust support for studying market microstructure, corporate finance, asset valuation, and international financial systems. With diverse faculty expertise, students can cultivate either analytical or empirical research approaches under expert supervision.
