The Law School stands among a select group of institutions nationwide providing a dual degree program that confers both a Juris Doctor (JD) and Master of Taxation (MTAX) simultaneously. JD/MTAX candidates gain comprehensive legal training through the Law School, while the Hankamer School of Business's MTAX curriculum delivers specialized expertise across all key taxation areas. This joint degree proves particularly valuable for those pursuing careers in tax strategy, dispute resolution, corporate planning, or wealth management. The program encourages participants to focus their legal studies on Business Transactions, Estate Planning, or Commercial Litigation.
Successful completion of MTAX requirements grants 12 credits toward the JD, while 12 MTAX elective credits apply toward degree requirements. Consequently, JD/MTAX candidates complete 114 quarter hours in law alongside 21 semester hours in graduate tax studies. Because degrees are conferred together, students must fulfill all requirements in both schools to obtain either qualification.
