To earn a Ph.D. in physics, students must complete at least seventy-eight credit hours. This includes mandatory coursework credits specifically for the physics doctoral program. Doctoral candidates will perform their research in one of the department's current focus areas, which span both theoretical and experimental disciplines such as astrophysics, space science, plasma physics, classical and quantum gravity, cosmology, particle physics, nonlinear dynamics, quantum optics, condensed matter, and surface chemical physics.
