Ball State's visual arts/animation bachelor's program delivers an immersive digital animation education covering 3-D animation, stop-motion, and classic 2-D techniques. Our nationally recognized curriculum equips students for careers across film, television, gaming, medical visualization, architectural design, advertising, and product development. You'll master current animation methods and professional-grade software tools. The program begins with fundamental art training before progressing to technical skills aligned with industry needs. Coursework includes character development, storyboard creation, traditional animation, and diverse specialized subjects. In 3-D courses, you'll explore modeling, surface detailing, lighting techniques, character movement, and visual effects. Numerous collaborative projects with peers and instructors across disciplines provide practical experience. All animation classes incorporate training with top industry software like Toon Boom Harmony, Maya, Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator. The program also focuses on career preparation, teaching artistic problem-solving, professional vocabulary, portfolio development, and effective self-marketing strategies for today's job market.
Students should apply as a freshman undergraduate student if:
Students have completed or will complete high school or secondary school before the semester you apply to start
Students have not attended a university, college, or other postsecondary institution
Students wish to earn a bachelor’s degree
Required Scores to demonstrate English Proficiency: TOEFL iBT 79; IELTS 6.5 Band; Pearson's PTE 53
Dates and Deadlines - International Admissions must receive all your application materials by these dates for consideration for a specific term
