For those eager to impart their love of mathematics and educate middle and high school students in this vital subject, our mathematics teaching major offers an ideal route. You'll engage with advanced math coursework and teaching methods to ready yourself for an educational career, gaining both the expertise and qualifications needed for Indiana state teaching licensure in middle or secondary schools. This program lets you specialize in either middle school (grades 5-9) or secondary school (grades 5-12) mathematics instruction. Regardless of your chosen track, you'll delve into how students grasp mathematical concepts and how educators can enhance classroom comprehension. The mathematics teaching major fulfills Indiana's certification standards for those aiming to teach math in junior high/middle schools and high schools. You'll select one of two specializations to pair with our University Core Curriculum.
Students should apply as a freshman undergraduate student if:
Students have completed or will complete high school or secondary school before the semester you apply to start
Students have not attended a university, college, or other postsecondary institution
Students wish to earn a bachelor’s degree
Required Scores to demonstrate English Proficiency: TOEFL iBT 79; IELTS 6.5 Band; Pearson's PTE 53
Dates and Deadlines - International Admissions must receive all your application materials by these dates for consideration for a specific term
Fall Term - application materials due by June 15th
Spring Term - application materials due by November 15th
Priority application date for fall enrollment: March 1; priority application date for spring enrollment: December 1.
