Ball State's exceptional needs: early childhood special education program equips you for a rewarding career supporting infants and toddlers with disabilities. Graduates find employment in preschools, developmental centers, and agency programs serving young children with special needs. This major includes coursework qualifying you for a Mild Interventions (K-6) teaching license. Beyond academic rigor, our program prioritizes hands-on field experience, concluding with student teaching placements in both early childhood and mild intervention (K-6) environments. Within our comprehensive special education curriculum, you'll study early childhood special education theory, assessment techniques for exceptional learners, mild intervention teaching strategies, and other essential skills. You'll gain experience working with diverse learners, conducting and analyzing assessments, linking evaluation to instruction, and implementing Response to Intervention (RtI) and progress monitoring techniques.
