The Department of Psychological Science traces its roots to Ball State's early days as a Teachers College. During a period of growth, the university established a new College of Sciences and Humanities. Recognizing this opportunity, psychology faculty members decided to form a separate psychology department within this new college. The department initially provided undergraduate psychology majors and minors, along with specialized programs in pre-psychology, general psychology, and clinical psychology.Meanwhile, psychology faculty who stayed in Teachers College reorganized into two distinct departments: Educational Psychology and Counseling Psychology and Guidance Services. While these departments continued serving undergraduate students, their primary focus shifted to graduate education after 1965.Psychology ranks among the most sought-after majors nationwide, creating diverse career pathways or serving as excellent preparation for advanced academic work. You might aspire to teach psychology at the high school level or pursue other psychology-related professions immediately after graduation. Alternatively, you may envision continuing your education, with your bachelor's degree serving as the foundation for future academic achievements. Whatever your ambitions, Ball State's psychological science program equips you for success. This major delivers fundamental knowledge of psychological science through both laboratory work and hands-on experiences.
