Loyola's PhD program stands as a leading center for advanced studies in continental philosophy, political and social philosophy, and philosophical history. The program is particularly distinguished for its expertise in feminist theory, ethics and value studies, critical race philosophy, and bioethics. Emphasizing philosophical diversity, our faculty draw from multiple traditions and methods, ensuring students encounter both analytic and continental perspectives throughout their studies. This provides doctoral candidates with a comprehensive education and numerous specialized research opportunities. Applicants to the PhD program must hold a BA degree or equivalent from an accredited university, with substantial philosophical training—typically an undergraduate major—covering ancient and early modern European philosophy alongside metaphysics, epistemology, logic, ethics, and socio-political philosophy.
The curriculum encompasses key domains of analytic philosophy, featuring courses such as: Modern epistemology, Metaphysical studies, Ethical theory, Logical systems, Philosophy of consciousness, and Theories of political philosophy.
